The Chattanooga Area Food Bank is asking our Food as a Verb community for help.

So, too, are farmers across the region and state.

Days after the 2026 Ag Day on the Hill — you can read our report from Madison Baldwin — a new amendment to the appropriations bill was introduced that would help fund Tennessee food banks in purchasing more food from regional farmers.

This is a continuation of the LFPA saga. A long story made short: Tennessee Department of Ag. lost the opportunity to secure millions in funding for a farm-to-food-bank program.

Then, the funding appeared, with many thanks to citizens and legislators across the state.

That funding expires this year.

Recently, the Ag. Dept. requested $2 million to be included in the governor's upcoming budget for the following year.

It was denied.

Here's Southeast Tennessee Young Farmer's Jess Wilson on Substack.

Earlier this week, the Food Bank released a statement, urging Chattanoogans to help support this measure.

You can reach your state legislator here.

You can reach the governor's office here.
